Portland cement mortar removed and lime stucco restored with a Harling finish to match the original stucco

All recent repairs were removed and the stucco was restored.

On the severely damaged areas, several coats of lime stucco were applied starting from the original lathe to the last surface coat. It is critical to allow the thick base coat to cure for a minimum of three weeks prior to continuing with the brown and finish coat in order to obtain a fully cured stucco well ahead of the winter freezing weather. The original finish on this building is known as "Harling" or "Dash coat" commonly used in England and Ireland. It is applied by "throwing" a coarse stucco mix from a short distance onto the wall with a special tool called a Harling trowel.
