Previous repairs with Portland cement mortar | Improper materials and finish texture

Many of the repairs, aside from failing, made the building look like a series of patch jobs that did not match in color or texture. Matching the color of this stucco would not be an easy job and the repaired areas would always be visible even if ever so slightly. Even if the original materials were available today the newly applied stucco would lack a century of aging. Using pigments to tint the new material is not the answer as pigments impart an "artificial" look. Since the stucco showed signs of segregation throughout and the large extent of the repairs area it was decided to restore the damaged areas of stucco and apply a lime paint finish to further consolidate and further protect the stucco walls.
